            Informal Assessment

What colors mixed together make green?

What are the stages of life cycle for a caterpillar?

What do caterpillars turn into after they make their cocoon?

            What do caterpillars eat?

The teacher will also ask the students to compare their work and pick one of their favorites from the class's work. The teacher will ask them why they chose this work as the most successful or visually interesting piece.

I chose two ways of assessing my students. First, I chose to do an informal critique and discussion about what the students learned or took away from the lesson.  Through discussion the students will answer my questions and show understanding of the material learned in the lesson. This will both check for their understanding and will give a head start for the students to become experts of color theory later in their schooling. Then I chose a formal assessment that just used their ability to follow directions as the basis for grading. I chose these assessments because they are a more rounded way of assessing the students on multiple levels. By having a discussion is a way to test their deeper understanding. I would start to create more lessons dealing with color to help the students on their way of becoming experts in this area. (Bransford, 2000)
